About Standard Chartered

We are a leading international bank, with more than a 160-year history in some of the world’s most dynamic markets. We have an unparalleled international network, connecting companies, institutions and individuals to, and in, some of the world’s fastest growing and most dynamic regions. And we’re proud to offer students and graduates a range of opportunities with us.

Where we operate

Our unique footprint connects emerging and high-growth markets with more established economies, allowing us to channel capital where it’s needed most. These are the markets we call home.

For over 160 years, we’ve used the power of our network to help people and businesses who trade, operate or invest in these regions. Our deep roots in our markets enable us to make things happen. We are shaping our bank to drive their success – and ours – in the new economy of the future. What sets us apart is our diversity of people, cultures and networks.

We have a long-standing and deep franchise across some of the world’s fastest-growing economies in Asia with the region generating two-thirds of our income. The two markets contributing the highest income are Hong Kong and Singapore.

Africa and Middle East

We’re present in 25 markets, of which the most sizeable by income are the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nigeria and Kenya.

Europe and Americas

Centred in London, with a growing presence across continental Europe, and New York, with presence in both North America and several markets in Latin America. A key income generator for the Group.

Employee Stories

Lina Toon – Business Service Manager - Malaysia

“The decision to explore banking, which was out of my comfort zone, was one of the hardest and scariest decisions I have had to make.”

Before working in financial services, I had experience in Marketing. The decision to explore banking, which was out of my comfort zone, was one of the hardest and scariest decisions I have had to make.

I spoke to my friends who were in the banking industry. They told me that there is more to banking than just branches and bankers. It definitely opened up my eyes to the possibilities that can be explored.

Choosing to apply for Standard Chartered felt right. I am passionate when it comes to helping people with disabilities. It came naturally for me as I grew up with my sister who has cerebral palsy. Therefore Standard Chartered’s involvement in CSR activities was one of the major attractions for me.

I choose the GTO programme because I believe that in order to fully understand roles, you need to start from the operations side, by understanding what happens behind the scenes. I recently spent three months in Indonesia working together with the team to improve the communication in GTO Indonesia and data clean up which was a great experience.
