From the 15th - 17th August 2019, GradConnection hosted a number of renowned overseas universities from across Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States for our third annual Returnee Summit in Hong Kong. The aim of the summit was to connect employers in Hong Kong with these overseas universities, and ensure that both parties can create a favourable environment for returnee students when they return back home.

To kick off the summit, we co-hosted a networking and panel event with Bloomberg, who was our official employer partner this year. Over 80 Hong Kong employers from various industry sectors attended the event, where an engaging panel session took place between employers and universities. Constructive discussions were had about the current graduate recruitment environment in Hong Kong and many tangible insights were taken for both employers and universities to use in their respective returnee student strategies in the future.

To give the university career services a glimpse into the working environment in Hong Kong, we had two employer site visits at Lane Crawford (a renowned fashion and retail employer) and Fidelity International (a powerhouse asset management firm) where attending universities could get a first- hand experience on the working culture in the different industry sectors and the pure grit that it takes to work in Hong Kong.

Both these events provided the universities with some key insights and the right tools to return back to their respective country, and be in a better position to council Hong Kong returnee students for their job searches back home in Hong Kong.

On the final day of the summit, we hosted our Returnee Career Fair where 25 renowned Hong Kong employers from various industry sectors, exhibited their graduate job opportunities to Hong Kong returnee students and graduates who had returned home for the summer. There was some great engagement between students and employers at the fair and we are looking forward to connecting employers and students once again at our Returnee Career Fair again next year!

We would like to use this opportunity to once again thank all the universities for attending our Returnee Summit in Hong Kong and to our Summit partner Bloomberg, and employer partners Cathay Pacific, Lane Crawford and Fidelity International for their hospitality and opening their organisations and homes to us during the summit.
